I work in a school board and we redirect My Documents folder to F: (Personal key = 'F: ' in HKEYCURRENTUSER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Explorer User Shell Folders) When set up this way, when we print something using the Microsoft XPS Document Writer printer, the document gets printed but it stays in the print queue as 'Error - printing in progress'. The job needs to be deleted for another one to print. It is kind of annoying since we use a software that print batches of XPS so after a document gets printed, the next one does not print because it gets stuck in the queue.
Microsoft XPS Document Writer Download for Windows 10 A combination of a recent Windows update and Quickbooks update has left us without the XPS Document Writer, which is necessary to save or print invoices from Quickbooks. Official driver packages will help you to restore your Microsoft XPS Document Writer (printers). Download latest drivers for Microsoft XPS Document Writer on.
The user then need to delete the job for the next one to start and so on. Not really optimal when they have 100+ jobs to print. I would like to know how can I solve this? I have confirmed that the problem is the redirection because if I change the Personal key to the default (C: users xxx My Documents), it prints fine but as soon as we put F: (network location), it fails. We also can't really change the redirection so I would really like to know if there is anything I can do so that the Microsoft XPS Document Writer printer can print using My Documents folder redirection on the network.

I first tried recreating/reinstalling the printer, with no luck. Then, I removed the XPS Service through Add/Remove programs and added it back, did not work either.
I also gave full rights to everyone and authenticated users to the%temp% folder just to see if it would work, but it didn't. I even gave it to the c: windows system32 spool folder because the spooled file could not be deleted once they were printed but it didn't change anything.
But as soon as I change the My Documents path (Personal key HKEYCURRENTUSER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Explorer User Shell Folders to c: instead of f: ), it works. Changing that is not really a solution for me since we need our users to have their documents on the network so that is why I'd like to know why jobs get stuck in the print queue only when My Documents are redirected on the network. Actually no, I just replied back on August 18th saying that none of the solutions worked? Thanks for the answer but none of these solutions work.

Microsoft XPS Document Writer feature in Windows 10 is installed by default and allows user to print any documents and save them to XPS format. Thus, user can easily create XPS document from any application with printing feature using the virtual XPS printer. XPS (XML Paper Specification) is an XML-based, fixed-layout graphics format implemented by Microsoft, designed to print the content, while preserving the accuracy of the documents. The XPS format is essentially an alternative (MSFT) to the popular PDF format from Adobe, and the XPS document is simpler and easier than PDF. Besides, it supports multi-thread, views, it is secure (currently does not have official script support), supports encryption and digital certificates. It is recommended to create an XPS document for files that contain graphic images or illustrations which can be displayed differently on different computers and monitors. Windows 10 natively supports the printing and viewing of XPS files.
The XPS file can be created in any program, where there is a print function. To do this, you need to send your document to print and then select Microsoft XPS Document Writer as the print device. The easiest way to open an XPS file is to use the XPS Viewer tool, which is already installed by default in Windows. If you double-click on the XPS file, it will automatically open it using this program, after which you will be able to view the document, create or request signatures, and send it to the physical printer. In addition, you can use free program STDU Viewer to open xps documents, or various extensions for browsers. Before you send or share an XPS document, you can add a digital signature.
A digital signature indicates the author of the XPS document and warns everyone who views it, if the document is changed after signing. You can also specify the allowed time for viewing the document and users by applying permissions before sharing. If you do not need a Microsoft XPS Document Writer virtual printer, you can remove it from the PowerShell command line or from the Devices and Printers section in the Control Panel (right click Microsoft XPS Document Writer printer and select Remove device).
