I'm new to Toast 11 (previously I used iDVD) and am having trouble with DVD menus. I don't seem to be able to find any way of putting text onto the DVD menu page (I've been using Splash) or indeed altering the text or layout that is already there. I have been able to change text colour and the number of buttons; all the obvious stuff; as well as importing a photo.
May 13, 2011 - Despite some rough edges, Toast 11 is a very nice upgrade from Toast. Roxio's Toast has long been the gold standard for going beyond the. Toast 17 Titanium makes it easier than ever to burn, copy, capture, edit, convert and share digital media. Toast 17 Pro is a valuable collection of digital media apps for Mac with all the powers of Titanium PLUS Blu-ray Disc authoring, photo editing tools, and more!
I just don't seem to be able to have much of the functionality that iDVD had. Can anyone tell me where I could find these features? Many thanks Adam. Old thread but having the same issue. This is so basic it's practically negligence to be unable to edit a button name.
Why wouldn't they try to make a better product? It will only send customers to other products. I don't want to give someone a dvd with a button that says 'my movie.' It's like it's made for a five year old. That's just embarrassing. Did you read the thread you are posting in?
It says exactly how to edit button names for clips (select ClipEditInfo 1/Info 2/Info 3). The default “My Movie” line is a menu title, which can be changed/edited as well (OptionsCustomizeMenuMenu Title).
Note that the disc name also defaults to “My Movie”, and is unrelated to the main menu title. Roxio did try to make a better product (regarding menus) with the MyDVD app (bundled with v14 and later). Edited December 20, 2017 by theoldarchiver. The three lines of text that are next to the thumbnail image in the main Toast window are the text for that title. You can edit that text by clicking on it or by clicking the Edit button and the text is the Info 1, Info 2 and Info 3 appearing in the Text tab of the Edit window. All the menu styles will show the first line of text.
Some will show the second or third lines of text when there is one or a few titles per page in the menu layout. I'm not sure about the Splash style but it may only show the first line of text regardless of the number of titles per page. If you choose a menu style that displays a thumbnail image you can select the video frame to be used as that image by clicking on it in the Toast window and moving the scroll bar that appears beneath. You also can use the Edit window to select the thumbnail image by dragging the playhead to the point you want and click the Set Picture button. If you want to see how a menu looks before burning it to disc choose Save as Disc Image (File menu) instead of clicking the burn button. When the disc image is done select it using the Image File setting in the Copy window so that it gets mounted.
You now can preview the DVD using DVD Player. If all is okay then burn the disc image in the copy window.
If not, unmount and trash the disc image and return to the Video window to make your changes. Many thanks, that's really helpful. What I was looking for was the ability to add in multiple lines of text, and even little things like changing 'Play Movie' to 'Play film'. In iDVD you can amend lots of text onto the DVD Menu. Is it that Toast just doesn't provide these features? I just checked using the Splash menu style with a single title on a menu page. All three lines of text appear in the menu that are next to the title in the Toast video window.
Those three lines and the DVD title (by default My Movie) can all be edited to whatever you want (within space limits). There is no 'Play Movie' or 'Play Film' text. The movie is played by clicking the yellow button that's to the left of the first line of text describing the title. As you add more titles per menu page there will be fewer lines of text appearing for each title.
I don't know at what number those changes take place. Why aren't you still using iDVD? Thank you once again!
I've gone back into Toast and gone in to the main video window. I've clicked edit to bring up the Edit Video window. On this there are three lines I can edit: Info 1 Info 2 Info 3 I have amended each of these. When I go back to Options/Customize/Menus and have a look at the menu screen again it still only shows the title (as in the one I keyed in to 'Menu title' in this same screen) and then Play movie beneath it. I can't see anywhere on the menu page that it has shown the data I keyed in to Info 1-3. There doesn't appear to be any way of amending the text on the menu as you could with iDVD.
I used to have iDVD on my old Mac but having bought a brand new Mac of course it doesn't come with iDVD/iLife! I complained to Apple about the fact that i now couldn't now write to DVDs and they gave me Toast 11. I appreciate that Toast has many more features than iDVD but I can't find a way of getting it to do the simple menus I used to on iDVD! Thank you once again! The text you write on those three lines does not appear in the preview. You only can view it by finishing the project either by choosing Save as Disc Image or burning the DVD.
I previously provided instructions about saving as a disc image. When the disc image is mounted it should be able to be played with DVD Player or with VLC Media Player, although since I updated to Lion it doesn't seem to play with DVD Player now. VLC Media Player is a free downloadable app. The DVD name and the description of the titles are the only text you can edit in Toast. In most cases there is no other text present in the menu. The DVD name and the description of the titles are the only text you can edit in Toast. In most cases there is no other text present in the menu. Have checked and that certainly seems to be the case with mine as well. I think I'll probably just have to get iDVD if I want more elaborate menus.
